Three second half goals in the space of five minutes turned a competitive game into a comfortable stroll for a Welling side that had one particular player who was so talented it left you scratching your head as to why he was playing at Development level. To give the Tonbridge lads some credit, apart from those five minutes, they competed well and deserved a consolation goal but this was denied as a last minute header came back from the crossbar.

Two good finishes from Ben Hermitage provided the highlight for Tonbridge Angels Development as Maidstone United's greater physicality and team work saw the cruise to a comfortable victory. Had it not been for a fine performance in goal from Nat Gibb the game would have been out of reach before half-time but, in fairness the Tonbridge youngsters stuck at their task to avoid a heavier defeat.

A really decent performance from Tonbridge Angels Under-18 was rather spoilt by a sloppy last 10 minutes in which they conceded twice and put their supporters through a few nervy, and conpletely, unnecessary minutes. For 80 minutes they controlled the game, got themselves into what had seemed an unassailable position with well worked team goals from Jack Balcombe and Ben Hermitage either side of a fine individual strike from Luca Woodhouse. In a game that had been abandoned earlier in the season through ill-discipline on both sides, the referee kept a very firm lid on this one, issuing a first half sin bin visits for two Tonbridge players and one from Bearsted, but Tonbridge managed the 10 minutes almost without a scare whilst one player short.

Tonbridge Angels Academy came up against a very strong Dover Athletic and despite acquiting themselves well, two goals in quick time straight after half time, saw them beaten comfortably. There were positives to be taken, all of the first year students did well with 15 year-old full back Leo Vowles earning the manager's man of the match choice. They also showed a great attitude after going four goals down on 70 minutes and could easily have folded, but they stuck to their task and were very good value for their consolation goal scored by Harry Hudson who met a left winger corner with a header at the far post.

One small step, for the first time in three months the shirt came out of the wardrobe, the minibus wheels rolled out of Hugh Christie with a team of excited young footballers onboard. Football is nearly back.
